Care guide

These pieces are made to last a lifetime.

Handmade objects reward a little attention. With the right care, your Koseley pieces will age beautifully — the brass deepening, the textile softening, the patina becoming its own kind of beauty.

Brass & bronze singing bowls

Daily care

Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after each use to remove fingerprints and moisture. Avoid leaving water standing in the bowl.

Polishing

For a bright finish, apply a small amount of brass polish (Brasso or similar) with a soft cloth in circular motions. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry immediately. Polish no more than once or twice a year — the natural patina that develops with age is part of the piece's story.

Natural patina

Many owners prefer to let their bowl develop a warm, darkened patina over time. This is entirely natural and does not indicate damage. Simply wipe clean and leave it.

What to avoid

Do not use harsh chemical cleaners, bleach, or abrasive pads. Keep away from saltwater and acidic environments. Do not leave in direct sunlight for extended periods.

Copper & mixed metal pieces

Cleaning

A paste of equal parts flour, salt, and white vinegar applied for 30 minutes and then rinsed off will restore shine naturally. Alternatively, use a proprietary copper cleaner.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from humidity. Line storage containers with acid-free tissue paper if possible.

Handling

Handle with clean, dry hands. The oils from skin can accelerate tarnishing, especially in humid conditions.

Hand-woven textiles & Pashmina

Washing

Hand wash in cool water with a small amount of mild detergent or wool wash. Never machine wash, tumble dry, or wring. Gently squeeze water out and reshape while damp.

Drying

Lay flat on a clean towel to dry in a well-ventilated area, away from direct heat or sunlight. Do not hang — this can stretch the weave.

Storage

Fold and store in a breathable cotton bag. To deter moths, place cedar blocks or lavender sachets nearby — do not let them touch the fabric directly.

Pilling

A small amount of pilling is normal on high-quality wool and Pashmina. Remove pills gently with a fabric shaver — never pull or cut.

Incense & resin

Burning

Always burn on a heat-resistant holder. Keep away from draughts which can cause uneven burning. Never leave burning incense unattended.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place in their original packaging or an airtight container. Avoid humidity which can affect the fragrance and burn quality.

Shelf life

Properly stored, high-quality Himalayan incense will retain its fragrance for 2–3 years. Resins (like palo santo or dhoop) keep indefinitely.

Thangka & painted objects

Handling

Handle thangka paintings by the edges only. Never fold — roll for storage if necessary. Keep away from moisture and direct sunlight, which will fade pigments.

Cleaning

Dust gently with a soft, dry brush. Do not use any liquid cleaners. For significant soiling or damage, consult a textile or painting conservator.

Display

Hang in a stable environment away from vents, radiators, or exterior walls subject to temperature fluctuations.

A note from us

“Every dent, patina, and softened edge is part of your object’s life — not a flaw. These are not museum pieces. They are made to be used, held, and slowly loved into their final form.”
